Integrated devices for quantum communication and processing

Workshop

February, 16th,  Corning (NY)

15:00-17:30 CET (9:00-11:30 EST)

The workshop is aimed at finding synergies between the ITN students’ projects and quantum applications, so that NANOGLASS impact increases. To this end, world leading scientists will initially present examples of state-of-the-art quantum communication, simulation and computing technologies. The student will then introduce their projects and a summary of results so far. Finally, there will be an open discussion during which students will get a feedback on their work and new developments will be considered.

Speakers

Dr. Eleni Diamanti

Dr. Eleni Diamanti is CNRS research director at the LIP6 laboratory of Sorbonne University in Paris. She received her Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in 2000 and her PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 2006. She then worked as a Marie Curie postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Optics Graduate School in Palaiseau before joining the CNRS in 2009. Her research focuses on experimental quantum cryptography and communication, and on the development of photonic resources for quantum networks. She is a recipient of a European Research Council Starting Grant, coordinator of the Paris Centre for Quantum Technologies, and an elected member of the Board of Stakeholders of the European Public Private Partnership in Photonics.

Dr. Leticia Tarruell

Dr. Leticia Tarruell is an ICREA professor at ICFO. She received her PhD from ENS Paris (2008), postdoc at ETH Zurich (2008-2012), chargée de recherche CNRS at Institut d’OptiqueBordeaux (2012-2013), ICFO TT professor (2013-2019), ICFO professor (since 2020), ICREA professor (since 2022). Her research interests range from quantum droplets, topological gauge theories, and topological superfluids in quantum mixtures, to quantum magnetism in Fermi-Hubbard systems. Since 2013, she has been PI in >15 grants, including FETs QUIC, and DAALI, and DFG Research Unit FOR2414. Young investigator award of the Spanish RSEF 2015, and ERC CoG2020.

Dr. Daniel Nolan

PhD in Physics, Dr. Daniel Nolan is leading Corning’s quantum optics research, programme, focused on quantum. Daniel has been granted over 131 U.S. patents and published over 100 papers. He edited one of the first books on WDM components, served as an editor of IEEE Photonic Technologies Letters and has published 4 papers in Physical Review Letters. Daniel served on 5 thesis committees and supervised well over ten young scientists at Corning.

Davide Rizzotti

Davide Rizzotti completed his undergraduate studies in Physics at  the University of Trento (Italy) in 2019. He continued with a Master of Science (Physics) at the same university, focusing on Nanophotonics. In 2021, Davide defended the thesis on integrated quantum source for mid-infrared sensing on a silicon chip. He joined ICFO the same year as NANO-GLASS project early stage researcher (ESR3), working in the Optoelectronics group of Valerio Pruneri as a PhD student. His research is focused on fiberized sources and devices for efficient quantum communications.

Susana Plascencia

Susana Plascencia completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Guadalajara in Mexico where she received her Bachelor in physics in 2018 with a thesis in studying the effect of the Ouabain in the potassium channels. In 2020, she obtained the Master in science (Optics) at the Research Center in Optics (CIO) in Leon, Mexico for theoretical and experimental study entangled SPDC photon sources in the orbital angular momentum, thesis that was done in IOF-Fraunhofer, Germany. Since 2021, Susana has been a graduate student at The Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) where she joined the Quantum Phonics with Solids and Atoms group of Prof.Dr.Hugues de Riedmatten as NANO-GLASS early stage researcher (ESR4). Her research focus is the investigation of erbium-doped-glass materials suitable for solid state quantum memories.
