Davide Rizzotti (ESR3) begins secondment at Corning

,

In January, Davide Rizzotti (Early Stage Researcher, ESR3) started his first secondment within the NANO-GLASS project at Corning Incorporated. Davide is completing his secondment at Corning’s Sullivan Park Research and Development facility.

Davide’s secondment research focuses on the design, fabrication, and characterization of an optoelectronic device for the generation of entangled photons in optical fibre. He will have the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with Corning’s highly skilled scientists.

“I am glad to have the possibility to work in the R&D department at Corning. The different environment and approach to the problems will enrich me a lot as a scientist during my stay here. Moreover, I have the opportunity to focus on the fabrication of fiberized-devices: hands on experience and learning from world experts is what I am looking for from this secondment.”, said Davide.

During the first weeks of his secondment, Davide met with Stuart Gray, optical research associate and Karl Koch, research fellow who will be supervising the progress of his Individual Research Project during the next five months. Davide has also met the rest of his team members that he will be closely collaborating with.

Secondments are a key stage in the training of every ESR to help individuals acquire a variety of hands-on experiences in an industrial environment.
