Valerio Pruneri

NANO-GLASS Coordinator, Valerio Pruneri, receives one of the Royal Spanish Society of Physics-BBVA Foundation Physics Awards

On September 25, the Royal Spanish Society of Physics-BBVA Foundation disclosed the awardees for the 2023 edition of their awards. Among the recipients was Valerio Pruneri, coordinator of the NANO-GLASS project, who received one of the eight awards. Specifically, Pruneri was honored with the Physics, Innovation, and Technology award. The jury, which bestows this accolade annually, recognized his “remarkable international scientific and technological contributions at the nexus of materials physics and photonics.”

Valerio Pruneri, an ICREA professor at ICFO, leads the Optoelectronics group, focusing primarily on studying and developing new advanced materials, devices, and systems for information and communication technologies. Specifically, their research spans displays, image sensors, and cybersecurity. Notably, three out of the four NANO-GLASS ESRs belong to Pruneri’s research group

The award ceremony will take place in Madrid next December 2023. This event will offer an opportunity to acknowledge Pruneri’s and the rest of the laureates contributions to the field.

“This award is the result of the entire group’s efforts and the endlessy support of all ICFO’s units and our external collaborators. It is a recognition to the effort of carrying out research that leverages fundamental principles and puts them into practical applications”, said Valerio Pruneri.

Since 2008, the Royal Spanish Society of Physics-BBVA Foundation Physics Awards have annually acknowledged the creativity, effort, and achievement demonstrated within the field of physics. Furthermore, the awards aim to recognize exceptional contributions across various domains, including research, education, innovation, technology, and outreach.
