Davide Rizzotti attended the School of Non-linear optics in fibers and integrated optics

Davide Rizzotti (ESR3) participated in the “School of non-linear optics in fibers and integrated optics“. The 5-days course took place in Cargèse, in the west coast of the French island of Corsica from 22 to 28 October. A total of 61 students attended the 2023 edition of the school.

The school, which was hosted by ELIOS (Effets non-linéaires dans les fibres optiques et en optique intégrée), a research group of CNRS (the French National Scientific-Research center), was focused on nonlinear effects and their applications in fibers and in integrated platforms. The aim of the course was to give the participants an insight on the various nonlinear effects present in waveguides, focusing on the differences between the platforms and advantages and disadvantages compared to bulk optics. The event also dedicated a big space to showcasing the various applications of these technologies.

The course comprised three to four daily lectures, where each professor explained a specific nonlinear optics effect or technique. Following the lectures, each group presented their work and the presenters compared it to the current state of the art. Furthermore, Rizzotti had the opportunity to participate to two poster sessions and an industrial exhibition, where he could dig deeper in the work of the other PhDs and Post-Docs.

“It’s been a great opportunity to spend an entire week with so many other PhD students and scientists that work on subjects related to mine. It’s been an important possibility for networking and learning new concepts”, said Rizzotti. “The lectures were inspiring! I learned a lot and I came up with a few ideas that I would like to explore better in the near future.”
