The recipients of the 2023 edition of the Royal Spanish Society of Physics-BBVA Foundation awards were made public on September 25. The NANO-GLASS project coordinator, Valerio Pruneri, has been one of the eight awardees. Pruneri was named the recipient of the Physics, Innovation and Technology award. The jury of the award, which is conferred annually, aknowledged his “outstanding international scientific and technological contributions at the intersection of materials physics and photonics”.

Valerio Pruneri is an ICREA (Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies) professor at ICFO where he leads the Optoelectronics group. Pruneri’s research groups primarily focus its research on studying and developing new advanced materials, devices and systems for information and communication technologies, in particular displays, image sensors and cybersecurity. Three out of the four NANO-GLASS ESRs are members of Pruneri’s research group.

The award ceremony will take place in Madrid next December 2023. This event will offer an opportunity to acknowledge Pruneri’s and the rest of the laureates contributions to the field.

“This award is the result of the entire group’s efforts and the endlessy support of all ICFO’s units and our external collaborators. It is a recognition to the effort of carrying out research that leverages fundamental principles and puts them into practical applications”, said Valerio Pruneri.

The Royal Spanish Society of Physics-BBVA Foundation Physics Awards have been recognizing creativity, effort, and achievement in the field of physics annually since 2008. The awards acknowledge outstanding contributions to the field of physics in a variety of areas, including research, education, innovation, technology, and outreach.
